Treatment Models

Individual Counselling provides you with an opportunity to:

  • Explore your past in a safe and trusting environment
  • Develop insights into patterns of behaviour
  • Discover new ways of coping with life

Building a trusting relationship with your counsellor can help you to talk about your past and how it has affected you.  This can lay the groundwork for developing other trusting relationships in your life.

There are a number of different theoretical approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. Most approaches focus on exploring your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours and on helping you in understanding how your experiences in childhood may continue affect you in your adult life.  Through increasing your awareness and expressing your feelings, you become more able to discover new ways to cope with life.

Group Work

Attending group therapy can give you an opportunity to meet and share with others who have also experienced childhood abuse.  Discovering that you are not alone in this struggle can provide great relief. Group work can focus on issues such as anxiety, self-esteem, trust, anger, relationships and intimacy.
