Counselling helps an individual to explore their difficulties in a safe and confidential environment. The counsellor is not there to judge the client, the circumstances they find themselves in or the perpetrator of any difficulties that the client has experienced. The counsellor’s role is to create the kind of environment where the client can safely explore their thoughts and feelings so that they can understanding themselves more in terms of the impact of the circumstances of their life.
The counsellor is trained to listen in a way that enables the client to understand themselves better and to decide on how they can live their life in a more satisfying way.
Some clients will require short-term counselling which in our experience ranges from 3-20 weekly sessions of 60 minute duration. Other clients attend our service for longer and the level of service required is reviewed on a regular basis by the counsellor with the client. We do not run a treatment programme and so it is not always possible to tell exactly when a counselling vacancy will arise for a new client.
Counselling is by appointment only. We do not offer a drop-in service. It is important that clients are on time for their counselling appointment so that they can get the full benefit of the time allocated to them.
